Description:

This bill will be the 09-10 budget for the GT Softball Club, because the organization is new, and this is the first budget to be submitted. The items included are necessary for the starting and successful continuation of a softball club here at Georgia Tech.
In order to compete in the National Club Softball Association, there is an annual league fee of $675 that arranges for and covers costs for nine games against other competitive teams within the state, and permits qualification for national tournaments. For other non-league games, umpire fees as well as field usage are necessary. Umpires cost $75 per game per umpire, and two umpires are needed for each game. Field usage fees also run $450 per weekend (2 games per weekend).
Expected Games:
*League Games = 9 games
*Non-League Games = 6 games
*Tournaments = 6 games/per * 2 = 12 games
The planned schedule calls for 3 different weekends encompassing six different non-league games that bring the totals to $900 for umpires ($75 * 2 umps/game * 6 games) and $1350 for field use ($450 * 3 weekends). Other necessities for game play are score books ($20 per * 2 per season) in order to keep records and statistics, and lineup cards ($5 * 20 games) that are used to publish the official roster for each game played. For practice as well as games, league mandated official softballs ($75 per dozen) are needed. $450 ($75 * 6 dozen) will be needed for softballs, as 3 dozen are needed for practice purposes for the season, and two new balls are needed for each game (20 games ~= 3 dozen) bringing an expected total needed to six dozen.
As a team we anticipate using batting cages for additional batting practice aside from what can be done on a field. The going rate for batting cages is $65 per hour for two cages. Because of our team size of 25 current players that attend practices, it will be necessary to rent two cages at a time. Five different trips to the batting cage have been worked into our practice schedule making the total for cage rental $325 ($65 per * 5 practices). We also have a coach that is coming to work with our team at practice once a week for both spring and fall for an agreed stipend of $500 dollars. As a startup team this is especially important in order to make sure our team gets off on a strong start.
Within the National Club Softball Association, our team will play one away series against Georgia Southern that will require travel funds (20 players travel). Because it is approximately 209 miles away the estimated cost for travel to Georgia Southern is $292.60 ($0.70 per mile * 418 miles). We also have planned to attend a tournament at North Carolina State which will cost $495.60 ($0.70 * 708 miles).
